So I got all my homework done, and now I’m writing this live as the SA Goons post madly trying to keep up a live Oscars discussion. Since I can’t watch ‘em (no TV) this is as close as I get. Besides, the whole Oscars thing is (mostly) retarted, it’s way more fun when its done by goons.
Peter Jackson as best director. Rawk.
LOTR goes 10/10. Fucking A.
Shit the forums are getting slow. Too many nerds.
Sean Penn wins. Johnny Depp and Bill Murray team up and kick his fucking ass after the show, and Penn gets to find out waht the Oscar feels like as a buttplug.
HOBBBBBBBBBBBBBITTTTTTTT RUSHHHHHHHHHHHHH 11/111
FUCKING A HOLY MONKEY CRAPoh wait, i think i owe somebody money. Fuck.
… seeing a poorly-formed opinion based on ignorance, or seeing a wonderfully-crafted, firmly-backed opinion that is still, nonetheless, based on ignorance? I’d almost always say the former, because the former can be dismissed as simply contributing to the signal-to-noise ratio. The latter, however, is dangerous and sad, and it’s even more depressing when it’s written by someone that you thought you respected. In this case, one of my favorite authors, Orson Scott Card.

and it’s going to get me in deep shit. I spent something like three hours just fucking around in Photoshop today, and it was really, really fun. I don’t get to do many geeky things anymore. But the DeBeers parody thread got brought up again today, and while I was reading it again, an idea popped into my head. I want to make a really big version of this:

So it’s dry and all the snow is almost gone and I’m having a reasonably good week and WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS HAPPY HORSESHIT.
IDAHO CAN EAT COCK.
It’s a big day for America, folks. Today, our illustrious leader, George W. “I Don’t Hate Everybody, Just The Ones I Don’t Like” Bush has decided that gay people aren’t deserving of the same legal protection as everybody else. Nice.
Since it’s the 21st fucking century, I think we ought to agree on a few guidelines so that everybody can get along.

Distortion has a new look.
I’m playing around with CSS. (Actually, I swiped these templates from another guy - see the colophon. And they don’t look quite like ‘me’ yet - but I really dig the layout, so I’m going to work with it and see what happens. It’s a little boned at the moment - the archives are still being built with the old template until I can work out how I want the new design to look like - but it’s a start.
Send me suggestions.
Also, my RSS feeds are now updated and validated. <3 RSS.
Not a huge shock, really, in fact, that’s about par.
I find myself obsessing about Moscow. Don’t know what I’d do even if I got back there, anyway. I’d probably just end up being another college dropout working a shitty job, but instead of being here where I have a house to go home to I’d just have a shitty room somewhere.
But that’s ok, because I feel completely useless here.

So chunks of Microsoft’s source got leaked to the Net. The big media services (and many geek news sites) are reporting on this like it’s the end of the world. Meanwhile, at least one (Ars Technica) is actually reporting the truth: from almost any aspect, this is a big ball of nothing. It’s an industrial espionage story, about as interesting as somebody stealing prototype photos from Mattel. It warrants a blurb on page eight and nothing more.
So why the hell is everybody going apeshit about it? Let’s clear up a few issues.

I love MC Hawking.
I’m a disciple of science
I know the universe is compliance with natural laws,
but many place reliance on the psuedo-science of quacks and
morons and fools because,
their educations deficient,
they put faith in omniscient,
make believe beings who control their fate,
but the Hawk aint with it, dig it,
their Holy writ aint the least bit legit,
its a bunch of bullshit.
They need to read a book that ain’t so damn old old,
let reason take hold,
though truth to be told,
they’re probably already too far gone,
withdrawn, the conclusion foregone.
But maybe there is still hope for the young,
if they reject the dung being slung from the tongues,
of the ignorant fools who call themselves preachers,
and listen instead to their science teachers.
Upon blind faith they place reliance,
what we need more of is science!
I got another mail from the UofI ITS giving users helpful tips on how to protect your computer from viruses and spyware and stuff. It was long and reasonably informative but I thought that they should just condense it down for those people with short attention spans (90% of America.)
So, I’d like to present to you
Mav’s Guide to keeping your computer safe
Step 1: STOP BEING FUCKING RETARTED
