This is my last post from Twin for at least a couple months. I’m leaving Twin Falls again in less than 12 hours. I’m really pissed about it this time, though.
I’ve got about 1/4 of the space that I had when I hauled all this shit up to Moscow the first time.
I’m heading up to a bitch of a semester. I’m taking some really hard classes, and doing some really hard shit. On top of all that, I’m going to try and get a job.
Add to this the fact that my dad is ill, has been for several weeks, and the doctors are just now starting to know what’s wrong with him. The doctors say good things, but it still really really bugs the fuck out of me to have to leave while he’s ill.

I just walked into the bedroom a few minutes ago to go to sleep. As per usual, I was carrying my laptop, and I had put the fan in the window earlier in the evening so it would be nice and cool. It smelled like rain, and suddenly I realized that the rain smell in the Magic Valley doesn’t smell like rain anywhere else.
Don’t ask me why this is an epiphany, the reason why this page is here is so I can ramble about random shit like this without anybody asking me any questions. So there.

You know those nights when you’re stumbling home in a drunken stupor? Now try typing on one. This is really quite surreal, I’m making tons upon tons of tyopos and it probably took about a minute to type out this sentence. Weird.
Oddly enough, I do the same things drunk as I do sober, only slower and more exaggerated.
Oh, and Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum is to be avoided at all costs. I’ve been home for an hour and I’ve still got a serious buzz going on.

There’s nothing worse than idiotic, arrogant people with power. Therefore, there’s nothing worse than idiotic, arrogant UNIX geeks, since on the ‘Net they’re the ones with all the power.
The guys over at Something Awful have been trying to bring some attention to a little problem they’re having - they are changing backbone providers, something that could potentially cost them a metric fuckload of money, because of the ignorant fucktards at spews.org.
Spews.org is a blacklisting organization in the same vein as MAPS, with all the problems thereof. They love to say “We don’t block anyone!” Which is technically true, but then again, drug dealers can say “We dont kill anyone!” even though their products do.

I miss lan parties. I mean, old school lan parties where we didn’t care so much about what was the newest latest thing, we didn’t have to run the absolute newest patch, we took on some technical challenges and made them our bitch.
Now, we sit around and drink beer and hassle over patches and listen to inane bullshit, watch each other play movies and sounds and flash from everyone else’s computer, but never really get anything done. The sole product of about twelve hours of gaming was two nice solid hours of Day of Defeat.
It just seems like the intelligence level is dropping, the interest is completely gone (nobody cares anymore), the inane bullshitometer is going through the roof and I’m getting really tired of it all.
It’s a shame really. Lans used to be a place where we could all get together and just be geeks, but now it’s something else. I’m not quite sure what, but I think I’m happy I’m not having any more of them for a while. I can’t tolerate them like I used to.
I know I’m getting old.
