More people that piss me off

Tag: Uncategorizedmav @ 1:50 am

In this latest installment of “Free floating hostility,” I would like to address an issue that really pisses me off in the extreme: people that insist that MP3 is a highly inferior format, then run off to something that has all of the problems that MP3 has (with a little better sound quality.)

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, the first question one used to ask when choosing a piece of software to do a job was “How well does it accomplish my task?” Now, in this wonderful climate of rabid vigilante intellectual-property defenders like the RIAA, the first question you need to as is “What is this software’s pedigree?” That is, not only what software is the author using as a base for the application (if any) but where does the author intend to go with the application. This is why the GPL is important, because it ensures that at the very least, the version of a piece of software you are using is always going to be freely available.

Using this principle, I would like to aim and fire squarely at my new favorite group of computer fucking morons: MPC users.

DISCOVERY RESEARCH FUCKING BLOWS

Tag: Uncategorizedmav @ 8:53 pm

Well, that pretty much covers it. This week was supposed to be my second week working for Discovery, but I haven’t had a single day of work this week. I was supposed to be on the schedule Monday-Thursday but I got sent home every single day.

Now I don’t have any fucking money at all. Thanks, shitheads, this isn’t a job, it’s a goddamn circus.

What the fuck is up with Internet people anyway?

Tag: Uncategorizedmav @ 12:42 am

So I participate on the SA Forums. I’m hardly a celebrity but I really do enjoy the mentality there. Why? Drama is kept to an absolute minimum because people really don’t take it very seriously.

Recently I have taken to posting a fair amount on a certain new forum which I am reluctant to link to given the oh-so-typical drama sewer that seems to be developing there. For whatever reason, whenever I stray outside the normal realm of the hardcore geeks I know and love, things happen badly. I don’t understand why, although my present hypothesis is that geek humor and non-geek humor is completely different (read: non-geeky humans simply don’t comprehend geek humor. This would also explain why Friends exists and Family Guy got cancelled.) Stop reading here if you hate drama because I’m going to relive all the painful details because I’m fucking bored and feel like writing something. Blow me.

I happened to make one of my trademark Snappy Replies(tm), they usually follow the same format everywhere, like this:

a) exclamation
b) witty retort (Dammit, “Doctor, it hurts when I exist” was fucking funny.)
c) moral/conclusion/advice

For whatever reason, people care about this site

Tag: Uncategorizedmav @ 2:09 am

I’ve had several different people tell me that they actually read my random rantings here, although I’m still kind of at a los as to figure out exactly why. So, at some point this site will be resuming full-force, probably in the next couple days.

In the meantime, let me share some random wisdom, ala George Carlin.

- Jagermeister and energy drink is really fucking good, but if you drink too many of them that particular mixture will be outputting through an input (that’s bad.)
- Doing telephone surveys for a living is an incredibly demeaning and useless job but it pays the bills.
- It’s a bitch to plan LAN parties when other organizations are jerking around and not planning jack shit, but as soon as you plan something you’ll be doubling up dates.
- At any job, 99% of your supervisors are completely full of shit. The other 1% are hiding it well.
- Summer sucks, and I want to go back to Moscow.
- Blue Oyster Cult rules.
- So does Xploding Plastix.
- So does SA.
- Every town needs a good comic-book store, and Twin Falls doesn’t have one.
- There are way too many Republican Christians in Twin Falls for me to EVER make it my full-time home. I feel oppressed as soon as I roll into town these days.
- Most everybody sucks.
- Circular linked lists are nowhere near as hard as anybody says. Neither are integrals.
- Apple Mail’s spam filtering kicks the shit out of every other mail client in the whole world.
- 99% of the people that say they will call you later are full of shit, and about 75% of those are professional people. For shame.
- Most everybody sucks.
- There are seriously like 2 people that are real free-thinkers in Twin Falls.
- Kung-Log might be the best application ever.
