Are we just a bunch of losers or something?
I had a test last week in discrete math.My discrete prof goes to extreme lengths to tell us about our test, right down to the fact that he actually told us about a couple of problems that would be on the test nearly word-for-word. They were fairly simple problems (one, in fact, was so mindlessly easy that it took about a second to do.) Well, some people (including a friend of mine) mist it. And he didn’t do it on purpose. Sometimes you just forget things. I made a couple of really simple mistakes in the same vein- I made a dumb error and as such I lost points for it.
I’m not blaming anyone, it was my fault alone. I made a silly error and I’m not asking anyone to account for it except for me.
Well, after he handed us back our assignments our discrete prof gave us a 20-minute lecture on how there was no excuse for missing that particular problem, ever. By the end of it, I was really pissed. I don’t give a shit how goddamned perfect you think yourself to be; the fact of the matter is that people make really stupid mistakes all the time, and that’s never going to change.
On top of all that, I get an e-mail from my calc prof today saying that basically there were some of us in the class that really needed to work hard and get our scores up, and that she had expected to see many more people in her office asking questions. She said that her office was usually “standing room only” and that she was really disappointed in us for not making enough effort.
In short, I got a “FUCK YOU GUYS” from my calc prof.
So in return, I would like to say to both my discrete math prof and my calculus prof: FUCK YOU. I don’t appreciate being called an idiot, a layabout or a loser and I would appreciate it kindly if you CUT IT THE FUCK OUT. I ask questions when I need help, I study hard and work hard and if my standards don’t meet with what you think my standards should be, TOO FUCKING BAD. I don’t take that much leisure time off for myself, I study really hard and I make stupid mistakes JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE, AND I WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU BOTH WOULD QUIT CALLING ME AND MY CLASSMATES A BUNCH OF LOSERS.
(Yes, I know, I take this sort of thing way too personally - as I do with any kind of jibe, insult, or other crack. Hey, you spend ten years being called stupid and worthless several times a day and see what it does to your psyche, eh?)
