It’s not ITS, it’s Resnet

Shoulda known. I got many replies to this question, unfortunately, they were all the same: We violate RFC 931 for your protection.

“The residence halls network connection is behind a firewall, for your security, and will not allow active FTP connection. Passive mode is the way you will need to connect.”

Thanks, fuckers, but nobody ever bothered to consider that active-mode FTP has a very specific purpose - it’s exceedingly handy for connecting to FTP’s that exist behind NAT firewalls - like the ones owned by two of my friends. Thanks, assholes, I get no video from home now. Dammit. As if I didn’t miss home enough, now I can’t connect to it thanks to Resnet. God damn I hate this place.

In short, you can have Internet access, but it’s sanitized for your protection. Next step: Filtering Proxy. Bet me money. If it says ‘boobies,’ it’s ‘insecure.’ (That’ll end my semi-traitorous reading of fark.com.)
