The Wit and Wisdom of Telephones

Tag: Uncategorizedmav @ 1:55 pm

So, I’ve been wrangling with McLeodUSA for months over my business telephone service. They tell me one thing, they do another. It’s utterly ridiculous and I’m horribly disappointed. I’ve never seen service worse than Qwest before; in fact, I didn’t think it was possible.

Short version: Never, ever, EVER switch phone companies. Because the alternative is worse than the norm. Read on, oh weary traveler.

LIE #1: WE’RE CHEAPER. In fact, McLeod has saved me around $5 a month. And considering the fact that they don’t do that nifty call-following thing where you can call in from anywhere and forward your phone to anywhere, I want my Qwest back.

LIE #2: WE ONLY DO FIVE YEAR CONTRACTS. I got a year-and-a-half contract and I wish to hell I hadn’t gotten that. McLeod sucks the donkey’s balls.

LIE #3: OUR SERVICE IS FUCKING AMAZING. So I call McLeod earlier this year (in January) to disconnect my fax line - because I fax someone exactly once a quarter, and I have lots of customers I can mooch off of. Besides, even if I pay the Mail Room’s fax fees, it’s cheaper than the $50/mo I’m paying McLeod for that line (see Lie #1.)

In May it still hadn’t been disconnected.

I don’t know what happened, they refuse to tell me. And I’m tired of asking. I’ll just be a man and bend over & take it up the tailpipe, cancel my service and consider it a lesson learned.

Seriously. Don’t go for the alternate. They’re worse than Qwest (which boggles the mind.) And I haven’t even mentioned the many many times they called me and tried to sell me web services… Oh, we’ll set up your site, domain and all, for only $200… er, yeah, I’m not going to mention that.
